Meerut registered a whopping six-fold increase in number of foreign tourists from 2009 to 2014, making it the city with the maximum rise in foreign tourists in the Meerut circle in a five-year span. 

Compared to the 495% increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Meerut, the statistics of tourist hotspots of the region like Hastinapur, Garh Mukteshwar and Pura Mahadev seem dwarfed, with no foreign tourists at all in the last five years. 

The number of foreign tourists to Meerut in 2009 were only 430; that increased to 2,560 in 2014. In comparison, the overall footfall of foreign tourists in the Meerut circle (which includes the districts of Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpat) increased by 41.9%, growing from 35,460 in 2009 to 50,318 in 2014.
