On the lines of the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL), Agra division of North Central Railway ( NCR) is mulling over training local autorickshaw and taxi operators as tourist guides. The railway authorities here propose to approach the UP tourism department and seek its help in training them.

On Thursday, railway minister Suresh Parbhu in his budget speech hailed the success of the KRCL initiative to promote tourism. 

More than three crore travellers visit Agra by train every year. Around one fourth of the passengers are foreign tourists who visit the city to see the Taj and other Mughal-e​ra​ monuments. Local autorickshaw and taxi operators are the first point of contact for tourists when they alight at a railway station, and hence, can provide information to them and also earn some additional income if they are trained to be guides, reasoned railway officials here.
