Coimbatore taxi News Coimbatore: As part of the modernisation of airports, Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman V.P. Agarwal on Thursday commissioned the parallel taxiway, three new aprons and three fire tenders, each costing Rs. 3.35 crore, at the Coimbatore Airport. Mr. Agarwal said the terminal building was being expanded from the capacity to handle 300 passengers to 750 and soon the airport would be made international as sought by the State Government. These facilities would become operational by June when the World Classical Tamil Conference would be held in Coimbatore. The parallel taxiway would help reduce the runway occupation time of aircraft. Similarly, the additional apron has made available three new parking bays taking the total number to eight from five in addition to an isolation bay for aircraft with security perception. The three new Austria-made Rosenbauer fire tenders have 10,500-litre capacity and can release water up to 90 m. Mr. Agarwal recalled the revival of Salem Airport and added that Thoothukudi modernisation was on the cards, while Tiruchirapalli has been completed and work was being expedited at Madurai airport. Once the State Government made 590 acres under acquisition process available, AAI would commence the runway expansion to 12,000 ft and another terminal building shifting the entire set up to the other side with demarcations for domestic and international operations.
