New Delhi: With foggy mornings having made a comeback in the national capital, dense fog today reduced visibility down to 200 metres, slowing down vehicular movement on the roads and delaying train services.
"At 7 a.m. the visibility level was just 200 metres because of the dense fog. However the wind speed is high so the fog cover will disperse and the visibility will improve as the day progresses," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told the media.
A traffic police official said: "Traffic movement was slow in the morning because of the low visibility level. It was especially so near Moti Bagh and ITO".
The IMD official, however, said the visibility has improved considerably.
"In fact, it has already improved to 500 metres at 9 a.m.," the official added.
At least 22 train services were delayed in the National Capital Region as trains moved at slow speed in view of reduced visibility along rail tracks, a Northern Railway spokesperson said.
The foggy conditions were similar on Thursday, disrupting flight and train schedules.
The minimum temperature recorded early today was a notch above average at 7.7 degrees Celsius. The maximum is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius. (IANS)
